No worries…you are one frozen banana away from a quick fix and a fantastic alternative!
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/3 cup Almond Milk (or your choice of milk)
- 1 T chia seeds (thickens it)
- Cacao nibs as topping
Blend…everything. Top with nibs.

I think most parents agree that teaching your kids how to make healthy choices in a society that is geared towards just the opposite is quite a challenge. Explaining to them that food is fuel instead of a reward seems almost impossible when everyone from the barber to their teacher hands out lollipops and cookies for good behavior. It may feel like a losing fight but it’s our job to keep fighting. We are their first role models, their biggest influence, and their best examples.
In our house we are trying to teach our kids that not everything that tastes good, is good for you. We read labels and point out that you should be able to both pronounce and identify the ingredients in the food you eat. Getting the kids into the kitchen has been a great way to get them interested in and asking questions about what they are eating.
Adam and I created a fun lunch just the other day and here is our recipe.
Fruit & Veggie Roll-ups
2 Whole grain wraps
1 Banana sliced into circles
2 Tblsp Almond butter
2 carrots shredded
2 Tblsp hummus
This couldn’t be more fun or easy…they were huge hit in the lunchbox too!
Place whole grain wrap on cutting board. Using a pizza cutter or knife slice into 1/2 inch strips.
Spread hummus on strips. Sprinkle with shredded carrot. (Be glad you shredded extra carrot when you see Adam has eaten half the bowl.)
Spread almond butter on strips and line with banana circles. (If Adam has eaten all the banana circles…cut more.)
Roll the strip up. These are more fun, and to a kid, they are fancy! Have fun!
